A Brief History

The Dallas Mavericks are an American professional basketball team based in Dallas, Texas. The team plays in the Southwest Division of the Western Conference in the National Basketball Association (NBA). The Mavericks were founded in 1980 as an expansion team, and they have won one NBA championship in 2011.

The Dirk Nowitzki Era

Dirk Nowitzki is widely considered to be the greatest player in Mavericks history. He was drafted by the Mavericks in 1998 and played for the team for 21 seasons. During his time with the Mavericks, Nowitzki led the team to their first NBA championship in 2011. He is the Mavericks all-time leading scorer, rebounder, and steals leader.

The Current Era

After Nowitzki retired in 2019, the Mavericks have been led by a young core of players, including Luka Doncic, Kristaps Porzingis, and Jalen Brunson. The Mavericks have made the playoffs in each of the past three seasons, and they are considered to be one of the up-and-coming teams in the NBA.
